Description : Nut grass is a pungent bitter-sweet herb that relieves spasms and pain, acting mainly on the digestive system and uterus. The roots and tubers are alterative, analgesic, antibacterial, antibiotic, antifungal, antiparasitic, antirheumatic, antispasmodic, antitussive, aphrodisiac, aromatic, astringent, aromatic, astringent, bitter, brain tonic, carminative, demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, galactagogue, litholytic, nervine, pungent, sedative, stimulant, stomachic, tonic and vermifuge. They are also credited with anthelmintic, antiinflammatory, antipyretic and lithontriptic properties. It also plays a significant role in lipid metabolism. Useful in kidney stones, erectile dysfunction and heightens sexual potency. Its phytoestrogenic properties makes it valuable as a general tonic for the female reproductive system.

Strengthens the stomach and is useful in fever, diarrhoea, dysentery, dyspepsia, vomiting, cholera, excessive thirst, etc. Harmonises the liver, slpeen and pancreas. Also used to strengthen memory and in loss of appetite. Promotes menstruation. Also produces significant reduction in body weight and lowers blood pressure in hypertensive obese patients. In a study, conducted by Bambhole VD and Jiddewar GC on 64 obese persons between age group 15-67 years being overweight by 15% and above, after administrating 2 gms. of the herb daily for 2 months, 59 persons completed the trial, 5 failed to complete the trial as they felt that they had lost sufficient weight. All of them lost weight gradually during the trial period. On an average they lost 9.5 Kg after 8 weeks.

Recommended Dosage : 3 to 6 g powder.

Contraindication : This herb is contraindicated during pregnancy and constipation.
