    Description : The berry is analgesic, anthelmintic, antiarthritic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiinflammatory, antirheumatic, antiscorbutic antiseptic, antispasmodic, aromatic, carminative, constipative, cystotonic, demulscent, deobstruent, diaphoretic, digestive, strongly diuretic, emmenagogue, stimulant, stomachic and tonic. Beneficial to the digestive system, the female reproductive system and the menstrual cycle. Useful in scanty urine, hepatic oedema, cough, gonorrhoea, leucorrhoea, cystitis, dysmenorrhoea, amenorrhoea and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Juniper berry stimulates the flow of urine by increasing the glomerular filteration rate, the process by which blood and bacterial wastes are purified. This diuretic action is useful in such conditions as congestive heart failure, urinary infections, and kidney disease and helps to detoxify the body of harmful waste products that contribute to problems such as rheumatoid arthritis, swollen joints and cellulite. Juniper is also warming to the digestive system and increases the production of stomach acid, stimulates the appetite, settles the stomach, and relieves gas. Also useful in chronic arthritis, gout and bursitis.

    Recommended Dosage : 3 to 5 g powder of dried fruit.

    Contraindication : This fruit is not recommended if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Use no longer than six (6) weeks at a time, since long term use may irritate the kidneys and urinary passages. Avoid in cases of heavy menstrual bleeding. Due to its action on the kidneys, Juniper should be avoided by those suffering from kidney disease.

    Description : The fruit is rich in protein, and high in potassium and other minerals such as zinc and iron. The fruit is alterative, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, a brain tonic, cholagogue, demulscent, emollient, expectorant, mildly laxative, nervine and possesses stimulant properties. Because the fruit is similar in shape and appearance to a human brain, it has traditionally been believed that eating it would help to improve concentration and memory. Useful in sexual debility and calms hysteria.

    The bark of the root is being used for massaging of teeth and gums (Dr Younis Munshi, J&K).

    Description : The root-bark of white variety of Turpeth is powerful purgative and used to facilitate bowel evacuation in the most dramatic cases of constipation. It is so strong that it must be combined with such other herbs as ginger, licorice, or some other digestive stimulant. It is occasionally used in colic and pain in the intestinal region, dysentery, colitis, arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia and rheumatism.     Description : Hippocrates and Dioscorides both recommended the flowers of this plant for respiratory complaints. Hyssop is considered anthelmintic, antiinflammtory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aperient, aromatic, astringent, carminative, cholagogue, demulscent, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, a strong expectorant, febrifuge, nervine, pectoral, purgative, sedative, stimulant, stomachic, sudorific, tonic, vasodilator and vermifuge. Useful in chronic coughs, pleurisy, tight-chestedness, respiratory catarrh, sore throat, laryngitis, common cold, sinusitis and chronic bronchitis and also in hysteria, colic, uterine affections and indurations of the liver and spleen. It can also soothe stomach cramps. It eases nervous tension and anxiety and has a soothing influence on the nervous system.

    Hyssop appears to encourage the production of a more liquid mucus, and at the same time gently stimulates expectoration. This combined action clears thick and congested phlegm. As a sedative, hyssop is a useful remedy against asthma in both children and adults, specially when the condition is exacerbated by mucus congestion.

    Description : The seeds have acrid, anaesthetic, anodyne, anthelmintic, antiinflammatory, antispasmodic, astringent, bitter, digestive, mild diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge, hypnotic, intoxicating , mydriatic, narcotic, sedative, stimulant and thermogenic properties.
